This is a blog about using twitter. Almost everyone has heard about it. Anyway just for the sake of being thorough, twitter is an online website where people can interact with short messages. Short messages often called “tweets” can be up to 140 characters to be exact.
Some people tweet about what they are doing at the time; “I’m reading the newspaper and sipping hot tea”. Some tweets include links to other sites to share information, like news, how-tos, videos, etc. Others will include re-tweets (RT) which re-posts another user’s tweet.
There are guidelines to follow when tweeting. Be sure to read the terms of use and privacy policies.
How to sign up? Go to the twitter site and click the sign up now button. Before you do, think seriously about a user name you want for your account. You may not get what you want, so write down a number of choices.
Your user name will be your “brand” for a long time on twitter!
If you build up lots of followers you don’t want to be changing your user name. Some people use their real name or a derivative of it, like mine (balljd). Some make up fictious or “cute” names, while others use company names. Again check Twitter’s user policy on names. Using registered trade or copyright names for instance will not be accepted without twitter approval.
